Consultation terms
The terms on which consultations and fixed-scope services are booked with Master Legal Work.
Booking and confirmation
A booking made online, by telephone or on WhatsApp is a request. It becomes a confirmed consultation only when the chambers confirm the slot to you on WhatsApp or email, after a conflict check.
Conflict check
Before confirming, the chambers check that they can act for you, for example that they do not already act for the opposite party. If they cannot, you are told before any payment.
Fee and payment
The fee is shown in the booking form and confirmed with the slot. It is payable in advance, only after confirmation, to the account given in the confirmation. Please mention your name and booking reference in the payment remark and send the receipt on WhatsApp +91 9872206969. For fixed-scope review or drafting, the fee and turnaround are confirmed to you in writing before any payment.
Rescheduling and cancellation
A confirmed consultation can be rescheduled once, if you tell us at least 24 hours before the slot. If the chambers need to move a slot, you are offered the nearest suitable alternative.
Refunds
The fee is refunded in full only if the conflict check shows that the chambers cannot act for you, or if the chambers cancel the consultation and no alternative suits you. Otherwise the fee is not refundable.
What a consultation covers
A consultation is advice on the facts and documents you provide, at the time it is given. It does not by itself create an engagement for litigation, drafting or any other work; any such engagement, and its fee, is agreed separately in writing.
Documents
Please share documents only through a Google Drive folder named [Your Name - Booking Ref], shared with masterlegalwork@gmail.com as Editor, and send us the link. The website does not accept uploads.
Receipts and tax
A receipt (a bill of supply) is issued for every payment. Legal services by an individual advocate are exempt from GST when supplied to an individual, or to a business entity whose turnover in the preceding financial year is within the limit for exemption from GST registration (Notification No. 12/2017-Central Tax (Rate), entry 45). Where the client is a business entity above that limit, any GST is payable by the client under reverse charge (Notification No. 13/2017-Central Tax (Rate)), so the fee is billed without GST and the bill says so. Business clients should give their GSTIN when booking. Tax treatment of legal products is stated before you pay. This is a general summary, not tax advice.
Consumer protection law
In Bar of Indian Lawyers v. D.K. Gandhi PS National Institute of Communicable Diseases (Supreme Court, decided 14 May 2024, Civil Appeal No. 2646 of 2009, 2024 INSC 410), the Supreme Court held that a complaint alleging deficiency in service against advocates is not maintainable under the Consumer Protection Act. The relationship is governed by these terms, the general law of contract and the professional rules of the Bar Council of India.
Confidentiality and conduct
What you share is kept confidential under the rules of professional conduct. The chambers do not promise or predict the outcome of any matter.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, and the courts at Chandigarh have jurisdiction.
